This workshop is themed East Meets West,
Discovering Another Side of the Guzheng. It is
open to all music lovers
with no professional
background required,
offering a relaxed
experience of the charm of cross-cultural music.
Moving beyond
conventional
perceptions, we will help you rediscover the
guzheng—an iconic Eastern musical
instrument. Drawing on my exchange experience in Denmark and other
countries, combined with live performance excerpts, I will share
how the guzheng converses and fuses with Western jazz,
breaking boundaries between instruments and musical styles. There will be no
complicated music theory or high
professional barriers. Instead, through
intuitive playing and casual sharing, we will expand your imagination of traditional Chinese folk music.
You will discover that
the guzheng is far more than what you are
familiar with. It can also be free, improvisational, rhythmic and dynamic, creating a wonderful
chemical reaction with
jazz. This is not only a
public music experience, but also a delightful
journey to open your
ears and witness the contemporary vitality of a traditional instrument.
